zalagasper have us feeling like a ‘teabag in the sink’; The Weeknd tunes into ‘Dawn FM’; Big Thief ‘Wakes Me Up To Drive’; Florence + the Machine have us dreaming of Memphis; and Eddie Vedder has us taking the ‘Long Way’

I saw an interview with Jack Antonoff in which he described “Chinatown,” his collaboration track with Bruce Springsteen off 2021’s “Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night,” as “car music.”

Simply put, that’s what my Destination playlist represents. “Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen, “Like A Rolling Stone” by Bob Dylan and “Massachusetts” by the Bee Gees have always been my favorite songs to utterly blare in a car. So, much of my odyssey is represented by these songs and so it made sense to attempt to capture this feeling with a playlist.

While this album is not as filled out as in other years, there are obviously some special songs I’ll be taking with me on the open road.

None is more special, of course, then my #1 song: “teabag in the sink” by Slovenian duo zalagasper. Upon first listen I knew this was going to be a potential favorite on this playlist and of all 2022’s releases. The essence of this playlist’s concept can be uncovered when the shoe gazy ballad pines: For rain to ruin the plans I don’t have/just to say “I guess not today”/”the weather’s why i’ll stay’

The Weeknd’s eerie collab with Jim Carrey; Florence + The Machine’s ode to Elvis’ Memphis; Big Thief’s solemn “Wake Me Up To Drive";” and Eddie Vedder’s rock anthem of “Long Way” round out a diverse top 5 and set up a solid playlist.

I hope y’all find a beautiful spot on this earth to travel to with this playlist! Bye!
