Samia’s “Bloodless” and Marlon Williams’ “Te Whare Tīwekaweka” will be discussed as Album of the Year contenders in my Below Radar category. Both of these albums have been on repeat since their release and offer such contemplation and irresistible hooks I can’t keep out of my head.
Last year, my Below Radar category lagged for the majority of 2024. This year, with the before-mentioned April standout albums and such works by Saya Gray, Ela Minus and Perfume Genius, this category is exceptional.
Bon Iver’s “SABLE, fABLE” was a remarkable work that was only slightly brought down because the EP released last year meant so much at the time. As a sad boy, this album does represent a lot even if there is a more upbeat feel to many of these tracks.
Lastly, Kacey Musgraves “Sounds From the Heart of the Woods” continues to amaze. I would love to see artists of similar stature venture into this ambient and ethereal space. Wonderful move by one of my favorite artists ever!
Bye!
