To me, PinkPantheress set the tone for summer.
Last year, it felt like we were enamored so much by “BRAT,” “Good Luck, Babe,” “Not Like Us” and of course, “Espresso.” This summer feels ripe for the taking. Will that summer belong to PinkPantheress… probably not. But this album felt so fun, succinct and current. Perhaps it’s the sound we need to start the conversation.
My other takeaway is how fucking wonderful Kali Uchis is. I think every annual project she releases is special. “Sincerely,” might be her best work yet the more and more I listen to it… right???
In my Below Radar category, caroline’s “Caroline 2” is a bona fide AOTY contender. Must like 2022’s Black Country, New Road’s “Ants From Up There,” this album is stellar in its grand orchestration and visionary expression.
Lastly, this month was particularly active in my Non-Vocal category. The best of which and easily an AOTY contender is Chloé Antoniotti’s “Bouquet II.” I have been listening to this project just non-fucking stop… naps, driving, gardening and housework.
Ok, bye now!
